You’ll Learn This System Hands-On

The Cannabis Expression Compass™

A brand-new way to match cannabis products to people. No more guessing. No more “just try this.”

Right now, most cannabis shopping works like this: you walk in, someone asks “what are you looking for?”, you say “something strong” or “something for sleep”, and they point you to whatever has the highest THC number.

That’s like choosing wine by alcohol percentage. It doesn’t work. The Cannabis Expression Compass™ replaces the guessing game with a real system — one that looks at the actual plant, how it was made, and what it will do to your body.

Layer 1
What’s In the Plant

We look at the full lab report — all the cannabinoids and terpenes, not just the THC number. This is the complete chemical fingerprint of every batch, decoded into outcome predictions. It tells us what the product can actually do to a specific person.

Layer 2
How It Was Made

Was it grown in living soil or hydro? How was it cured, and exactly how fresh is it? Craft quality directly affects the consumer experience — this layer tracks cultivation method, post-harvest processing, and freshness so you can separate premium product from commodity.

Layer 3
How It Will Feel

How fast will it hit? How long will it last? How intense will it be? We map the onset speed, duration, and intensity curve — predicted from the chemistry and processing data — so you know the experience before you have it. No surprises.

Layer 4
The Expert Check

Real Cannabis Sommeliers from a global network grade every product by hand. Data is smart, but human senses catch what numbers miss. This is the calibration layer — expert verification that no algorithm can replace.

Who Does This Help?

Consumers

Find products that actually work for you — not just what’s popular. The Compass creates a personalized safety profile that lowers the risk of bad experiences like paranoia or anxiety, and matches products to your specific goals: sleep, focus, pain relief, creativity.

Budtenders

Stop guessing. The Compass translates complex lab data into clear consumer language. You guide customers like a sommelier guides diners — with authority, not guesswork. Years of expertise compressed into a structured framework you can use from day one.

Store Managers

Bigger baskets, less waste. Smart product bundles based on sensory matching increase your average order value. Aging inventory moves before it expires through data-driven rotation — not desperate discounts. Every shift runs the same system.

Growers & Brands

See how your products actually perform with real people. Receive anonymized feedback on how specific batches affect consumers. Earn Sommelier quality grades that prove your craft and justify premium pricing with evidence, not marketing.

No more guessing. No more “just try this and see.”

The Compass protects the customer, empowers the budtender, and grows the business. You’ll learn the complete system — hands-on — in this intensive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any cannabis experience before taking this program?
No. The Cannabis Sommelier™ Intensive is an inclusive program designed for all experience levels. You’ll receive access to the complete online video curriculum 2–3 weeks before the in-person event. Completing the modules as pre-work will fully prepare you for the hands-on experience, even if you’re brand new to the industry.
What’s the difference between the $995 Virtual and the $2,500 In-Person?
Both include the full 40-hour online curriculum, certification exam, and Cannabis Sommelier™ credential. The In-Person Intensive adds 3 full days (24 hours) of live training in Vancouver: hands-on sensory evaluation with 24+ strains and 12+ concentrates, field trips to 3 cannabis facilities, face-to-face networking with industry leaders, catered lunches, a printed workbook, physical sensory evaluation kit, and a graduation ceremony with professional photography. You earn the Master Cannabis Sommelier™ designation.
Can I upgrade from the Virtual program later?
Yes. If you’re currently enrolled in (or have completed) the $995 Virtual Professional program, you can upgrade to the In-Person Intensive for $1,505 — the difference in price. Your $995 tuition is fully credited. Contact us at [email protected] to arrange the upgrade.
Is government grant funding available?
Most Canadians are eligible for government funding to cover tuition fees for this program. The BC Employer Training Grant, for example, covers up to 80% — reducing your net cost to approximately $500. Eligibility varies by province. Inquire with us about your eligibility at [email protected] — we can point you in the right direction.
What happens if I can’t attend after reserving?
Your $500 deposit is transferable to the next cohort (Fall 2026). If you need to cancel entirely, deposits are refundable up to 30 days before the event. Within 30 days, deposits are non-refundable but can be transferred to another person or future cohort. Contact [email protected] for any changes.
What should I bring?
Just yourself and a willingness to learn. All materials are provided: printed workbook, sensory evaluation kit, grading tools, and reference cards. Wear comfortable clothing — you’ll be active and on your feet, especially during field trips on Day 2. A notebook is optional. We’ll send a detailed prep email 2 weeks before the event.
Do you provide accommodation?
Accommodation is not included, but we provide recommendations with discounted partner rates at hotels near the venue (budget to mid-range options). Many participants combine the intensive with a Vancouver weekend. Details are shared after your reservation is confirmed.
How many people attend?
The cohort is capped at 20 participants. This ensures everyone gets hands-on time with products, personal attention from Julie, and meaningful connections at facility visits. When seats fill, the next cohort won’t run until Fall 2026.
Will there be any cannabis tastings or consumption during the program?
No. There will be no official cannabis consumption during the class. We will be handling real cannabis products for sensory evaluation — examining aroma profiles, visual quality markers, and trichome structure — but actual consumption is not a component of the session. Students are welcome to bring their own cannabis for “show and tell,” and may share and consume outside of class on their own time. All program activities are fully compliant with provincial regulations.
Is this the same certification as the Virtual program?
The In-Person Intensive earns you the Master Cannabis Sommelier™ designation, which includes everything in the standard Cannabis Sommelier™ certification plus the live sensory training and field trip components. Both are recognized credentials — the Master designation reflects the additional hands-on immersive experience.

The global standard in cannabis education transforming businesses and careers through research-driven expertise since 2017.
